SELF-LOVE

Self-love is a great place to start for increasing feelings of happiness. Treat yourself as you would a dear friend or a loved one. Use kind words, be patient, and encourage yourself…you would do this for someone you love…so why not yourself? Begin with self-love and it will swell into your relationships with friends, family, co-workers, and strangers <3

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Mindfulness is intentionally being aware of what’s going on around you without judging or criticizing. Imagine if everyone in the world was aware of their every thought and action…each person was aware and mindful of how they treated themselves and others. How wonderful things would be! Mindfulness does not happen overnight; it takes consistent practice. Start small and allow it to grow over time. Plant the seed of mindfulness in your heart and nourish it with a brief daily practice like mindfully brushing your teeth, eating one mindful meal, or focusing on your breath for 1 minute. Mindfulness can be practiced anytime and can be applied to any action! So get to it! Happy practicing <3

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY

Today I was on my way to a meditation retreat and realized I would be about 10 minutes late. I was suddenly very aware of how slow the white sedan in front of me was traveling. I lashed out in my head and thought, “She is going to make me late!” I caught the thought, analyzed it, and concluded that I would be late because I went to bed late last night, I woke up feeling tired, I moved slow while getting ready, and I left 15 minutes later than planned. I was honest with myself and took responsibility for my actions. I realized that blaming others was simply a habit of mind. I blamed without even thinking about it! This reflex to blame, judge, or criticize  impedes our ability to cultivate a JoyfulMind. If you find yourself blaming, judging, or criticizing bring awareness to the thought—Take time to identify a few things you can take responsibility for. If you have trouble doing so in the moment reflect on your actions later in the day using a journal—leave it on the nightstand and jot down a few things before bed. By doing this you will eventually develop the spontaneous habit of catching yourself in the moment or immediately after. Use spontaneity as a measure for progress…the moment when you are aware of this habit, you’ve made progress! Rejoice and keep practicing <3
